The Solar Heating System Basic Principles

Using a solar heating system saves money and resources. For centuries, people have been slowly using up the planet’s resources, resulting in all sorts of gradual changes in our environment. However, it is only in recent years that people are beginning to be aware of the dire consequences should we keep using our resources at the current rate. This growing awareness is what now drives us to develop new technologies that make use of alternative sources of energy. One such technology that is now being used is the solar heating system.

Basic Principles Behind the Solar Heating System

The concept behind the solar heating system is that we can channel the sun’s energy to create power that can be used to run all sorts of appliances, pretty much like what electricity does. The idea is to collect heat energy from the sun using above ground solar thermal collectors. This solar energy will then be used to heat a vast amount of water or other non-toxic solution, which will be passed into buildings by means of pipes, towards a central storage tank filled with water.

Using heat exchangers, the liquid in the pipe will heat the water in the tank. Once this is done, the pipes will return the non-toxic liquid to solar thermal collectors, where they can be heated once again.

Currently, two kinds of solar heating systems are in use.

  • The first system, also called the domestic hot water system, is capable of producing enough hot water for the consumption of an average household.
  • The second system is much more expansive and can produce enough heat for a large commercial building.

In areas where there are extreme conditions like harshly cold winters or scorchingly hot summers, special pipes are used for the solar heating systems. The closed loops used to bring hot water from the thermal collectors to the storage tank are made from materials that can endure vast changes in temperature.

A large factor that contributed to the development of solar thermal heating systems is the desire to come up with something that can provide us with the power that we need without doing further damage to the planet. It is therefore only fitting that these thermal systems actually do not have any by-products that can pollute the air.

When using the sun’s energy, we can actually do it the passively or actively. Either way, using solar energy is definitely one of the best things you can do to help conserve the planet’s resources, so invest in a solar heating system.

Solar Power Home Heating Is An Option To Consider

Solar power home heating is an option that helps to reduce the consumption of electricity in a home. It also ensures a more comfortable time during the cold winter months a little more cost effectively. Each precious joule of energy that can be saved will make a huge difference to your energy costs and also to the environment as a whole and the best way to save these joules is to use solar power home heating.

The home has a number of key areas that will benefit enormously from use of solar power home heating and if each of these areas is heated with the help of solar energy the savings in costs of heating will be dramatic and there will at the same time also be a drastic reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

Solar power home heating is not the same as your regular domestic hot water systems because the former harvests the abundant energy from the sun and so helps to reduce your monthly electricity bills which is different to what the standard domestic hot water systems do.

Even though proper solar power home heating systems might not always be able to provide sufficient heating to your home at all times (especially when there is no sunshine) you can work around this problem by using backup heaters or burner which though they use fuel will however use less fuel than is the case when using regular heating systems.

Of course, the solar power home heating components will only work during daytime and when the sun is shining though with an auxiliary battery backup it is possible to store the energy which can then be tapped when there is no sunshine.

When choosing a solar power home heating system you can pick between using an active solar heating system and one that is known as passive solar heating system. And, if you do decide to go in for solar power home heating you can also benefit further by reaping tax benefits and other incentives that are being given by the government of the state in which you reside.

Before you think about heating water with solar power it makes sense to decide whether you wish to purchase a solar power home heating system or create one for yourself. In case you decide to make it a DIY project then you will need to learn about a few steps that will help you achieve your goals.
